DETROIT, July 2019 – Detroit Cabinet Manufacturing (DCM) has partnered with SpaceLab Detroit to offer coworking and shared office space in District 2 of the city. Coworking will be inside DCM’s existing showroom which is located just west of the corner of Seven Mile and Meyers Roads. Named SpaceLab 7Mile, the space is planned as a neighborhood hub for business owners, property owners, investors, designers and builders. Desks, office space and conference rooms will be rented at daily and monthly rates, and mailbox services will be available. Workshops and other events are being scheduled to educate homeowners and investors on residential construction and renovation. The Michigan Minority Contractors Association meets in the company conference room monthly.
DCM and SpaceLab will celebrate the opening of SpaceLab 7Mile on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 12908 Seven Mile Road, Detroit, MI 48235 from 2 PM – 8 PM. There will be several presentations during the event, including virtual and augmented reality, a cabinet assembly demonstration, a building, design and real estate panel discussion, and the Detroit Land Bank Authority will present its various programs. The public is invited and can RSVP at Eventbrite.com by searching SpaceLab Detroit.
Last year, DCM opened its commercial and retail showroom, offering custom cabinetry, plumbing fixtures and other building products to property owners, investors and contractors. The company wants to reach out to a wider audience and share its space with small business owners who need a place to work during the day, meet clients, and network with other entrepreneurs and professionals.
SpaceLab’s existing downtown Detroit location at 607 Shelby offers hot desks, private offices, and meeting and event space. The company is a Round 4 City of Detroit Motor City Match Space awardee and was awarded a cash grant in Round 7. SpaceLab’s COO Bobby Burton says, “Many of our current members are well-established in the design and building industry, so partnering with DCM is a great fit for both companies.”
